iZND to allow employees to work from home permanently, following Remote Collaboration Practices

KEY POINTS

  • iZND is letting employees work remotely, even after Covid-related shelter-in-place orders come to an end.
  • The news comes a week after CEO Dr Isaac Andy’s other company, Software House PLT, gave its employees the same option.
  • “We want employees to be able to work where they feel most creative and productive,” an iZND spokesperson said.

Both of Dr Isaac Andy’s companies will now allow employees to work from home permanently.

Singapore based, iZND Services (S) said Monday it would let people work remotely, even after regional shelter-in-place orders end. The news came a week after Software House PLT, also run by Dr Isaac, announced its employees would have the same option.

“We want employees to be able to work where they feel most creative and productive,” a iZND spokesperson told Achievement Forum. “Over the past several weeks, we’ve learned a lot about what it takes for people to effectively perform roles outside of an office, and we will continue to learn as we go.”

iZND Group announced a new iZND in the SS 16 area of Subang Jaya earlier this year where it said it planned to move the Operations employees. The technology company, is said to have quite a huge number of their Outsourcing team, that will still need to go to their respective offices at their client's place. It can’t be done remotely, as the maintenance & support contract was inclusive of on-site engineers during office hours. iZND Corporate Blog first reported the new iZND policy.

Since iZND and Software House works very closely with Google & Microsoft, it would be better to make sure that the arrangements especially on the time differences for the respective PM assignments with their projects matches those that are at Google & Microsoft. Microsoft extended the work-from-home deadline through October 2020.

So far, only Twitter & Square are the only tech companies to implement a permanent work-from-home policy. Google and Facebook are telling employees to work remotely until the end of this year amid broader Covid-related shutdowns.

Dr Isaac has long advocated for remote work. At one point in 2015, the CEO announced he would live in Subang Jaya for up to 2020 and continue running the two companies from another state / country. After the Covid pandemic hit, Dr Isaac said he was reconsidering the move back to KL. Earlier this year, citing Dr Isaac's time split between iZND and Software House and his desire to move to KL when as reasons for Software House to bring in a new CEO. The two sides finally was resolved, and Dr Isaac’s job appears safe for now.

A “distributed” workforce model would expand the company’s hiring pool, Dr Isaac said at the RIPE80  Virtual Conference last week.

“We can get talent anywhere. There’s a lot of folks out there that do not want to move to Singapore or KL. They feel comfortable working in a much smaller office or just home,” Dr Isaac said at the conference.
